Stage 1

We will start the route from the neighborhood of La Cuadra, very close to Bilbao, along the Cadagua Greenway that runs along the course of the river of the same name.

We will enjoy a few kilometers of local road where we will be able to see the old farmhouses that mark the area. Once we finish the Greenway and after climbing a few kilometers of the San Cosme pass (usual for cyclists in the area) we will enter a beautiful gravel track that will take us to Mount Ilso (former military airfield of the Spanish Civil War), here we can enjoy unbeatable views of the Encartaciones.

We will descend by track to the Recreational Center of La Brena and once there we will descend again until we reach Balmaseda. The first town founded in Bizkaia in the 12th century, it is located in a narrow gorge bathed by the waters of the Kadagua River. A medieval bridge spans its waters and protects the old town, full of churches, mansions and stately homes, where events are held as its unique medieval market or the famous Stations of the Cross at Easter, starring the villagers.

From here, we will take a nice track that in the form of “eses” will take us to the top of La Garbea, one of the mountains that surrounds the region of Enkarterri.

We will have finished ascending, so after a nice pistero descent, we will take the secondary road that will take us, passing through the town of Zalla, directly to the starting point.

Stage 2

In this route we will start from Muskiz along the spectacular Vía Verde de los Montes del Hierro, an old mining railway line that leads us through the industrial bowels of Bizkaia, among spectacular panoramic views shaped by iron.

Following its winding and fun route with a varied and intense vegetation, we will reach the Traslaviña neighborhood. From there, and once we reach the village of Bezi, we descend through its spectacular pass, a classic of the cycling events of Bizkaia, until we link again with the Greenway from which we started the route.
