NIEVES BARRAGAN
Nieves Barragán Mohacho is one of the most renowned Spanish chefs, known for her passion for traditional Spanish cuisine with a modern touch. Born and raised in Bilbao, in the Basque Country, she grew up surrounded by the rich flavors and culinary traditions of the region. In 2018, she launched Sabor, her own restaurant in London, which quickly earned a Michelin star in its first year.
VIRGINIA BERASATEGUI
Virginia Berasategui is one of the most celebrated Spanish triathletes of all time. Born in Bilbao, in the Basque Country, she had a remarkable career spanning over 20 years, competing in some of the most prestigious international triathlons, including Ironman Hawaii, Nice, Monaco, Wildflower, and Wiesbaden. Known for her ability to excel in long-distance competitions, she is regarded as one of the greatest endurance athletes in the country’s history.

Álvaro Garrido is one of the most innovative and creative chefs in the Basque Country. As head chef and owner of Mina, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Bilbao, he has redefined modern Basque cuisine with his unique focus on local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients.

Welcome to Bilbao!
Upon arrival in Bilbao, you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel in a private vehicle. The Bizi Cycle Tours team will welcome you at your selected hotel. First, the team will provide a briefing on the full itinerary, detailing the cycling routes and other planned activities.
In the afternoon, we will embark on a bike tour through the city center of Bilbao, followed by a private guided visit to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. To end the day, we will enjoy a pintxos tour in the historic old town.

Day 2 Route: The Coast
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll kick off the day’s activities. Today’s route takes us along the first half of the 2023 Tour de France course in the Plentzia area. If you’re cycling, you’ll be accompanied by our guest guides, Miguel Indurain and Virginia Berasategui, who will ride with you throughout the route, sharing stories and anecdotes along the way. A support van will accompany the group at all times. You can choose between a shorter route that reaches the Bakio cliffs or a longer route that continues to the fishing village of Bermeo.
If you prefer the hiking route, it lasts approximately two hours and follows the cliffs of Plentzia. For lunch, we’ll all meet up and enjoy a light meal along the route; our meals always feature fresh, local ingredients. After lunch, you can either return by bike or take the van transfer back to Bilbao. We’ll freshen up at the hotel, and after some rest and free time in the afternoon, we’ll get ready for dinner.
Dinner will take place at the Michelin-starred restaurant Mina, dinner prepared by four hands by the renowned chefs Alvaro Garrido and Nieves Barragán.

Day 3 Route: Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve
Today is the final day of this incredible weekend. After breakfast, we’ll head out for our last route, once again accompanied by Miguel Indurain and Virginia Berasategui. Those doing the long cycling route will depart directly from the hotel. If you prefer the shorter route, a private transfer will pick us up at the hotel and take us to Gernika, where we’ll start the day’s route. Our destination is the stunning Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, a spectacular and vibrant landscape. This route follows the second half of the first stage of the 2023 Tour de France.
For those not cycling, Urdaibai offers a variety of hiking trails, and our guide will be delighted to explore them with you.
At lunchtime, we’ll all meet at Bodega Berroja for a txakoli tasting and a sampling of local pintxos. In the afternoon, transfers back to the hotel will be provided by private vehicle, and those needing to leave for the airport will be accompanied. The rest will have dinner on their own, and the following day, everyone will be taken to the airport.
